Easy DIY Cape - Inspired by Pinterest!

If you're not already on Pinterest - you should be! Such a fun website to archive decorating ideas, projects, recipes, DIY, pretty much anything!

I spotted this t-shirt cape project on Pinterest and immediately thought that Collin would LOVE to have one of these! He loves everything superhero and was getting frustrated with the velcro cape that came with his Superman costume always coming off. So a couple of Saturdays ago we did this project in less than 10 minutes!

I used one of my own old t-shirts instead of a men's one. The length was perfect for Collin and the neck hole wasn't too large. I purchased the iron on letters and soccer ball decal from Hobby Lobby for less than $5.00!

Gotta love cheap and easy projects that provide hours of entertainment!!

* We did go back later and decide to cut open the collar of the shirt and make a sturdy velcro tab. It can still be pulled on and off over his head, but now if he were to get caught it would come undone.

Dresser Swap & Refinish

When we knew that we'd be using all of the same nursery furniture for our new baby, Joe and I decided that we'd need to purchase a new dresser for Collin's room. You might remember that we refinished a great bed that we purchased second hand for him last summer. After looking at some options and other used dressers we could refinish, we decided to contact the guy that we bought his bed from and see if he'd be interested in selling us the matching dresser. He was! And at only $70 it was a steal.

To refinish it we followed the same steps used for the bed: sand, clean, prime and paint!

After painting and letting it cure for a day we put on matching cup pulls in oil-rubbed bronze and now it is living happily in Collin's room! We were very excited to get the matching set and love how it looks in the bedroom. At under $200 for all furniture and supplies, the upgrade to a big boy room was inexpensive at our house - and looks exactly how we want it too!

Our New Addition

No, we didn't add on to our house (although that would be great!) but we are adding to our family. Here is the nursery we've put together for baby # 2!

The room didn't involve much DIY outside of painting the walls. We were able to re-use all of our nursery furniture from our older son's room and just updated the bedding, storage bins, carpet and window treatments. You'll notice the same dresser that I showed you in our son's room. More on the dresser swap later!

We plan to add some accent shelves above the dresser for momento/photo storage, as well as some framed photos of baby over his changing table in white frames.

• The wall decal was ordered from Single Stone Studios on Etsy and was pretty easy to put up!!
• Bedding is Trendlab Rockets from Babies R Us.
• Changing table is a Pottery Barn hand-me-down from some neighbors with ClosetMaid cube storage bins from Target.
